RYA Basic Skills (Cat conversion)

1 day

The course

An RYA course for experienced dinghy sailors (at least RYA LEvel 2 Adult) wishing to learn catamaran sailing and is equivalent to a Basic Skills (Catamaran) / level 2 course . The course follows the syllabus set by the RYA which covers safety, launching, returning and sailing upwind and downwind. A capsize drill is included.

Teaching method

After a short safety briefing and look around a catamaran, your instructor will manage everything else on the water, showing the key differences between sailing dinghies and sailing catamarans where an understanding of apparent wind is much more important. Students who took their RYA Level 2 Dinghy with us receive a €30,00 discount.

Course and session timing

This course is usually run over a single day or two half-day sessions.

Pre-course experience

A great course to show you the many key differences between a catamaran and a dinghy, accelerating your development and enjoyment of catamaran sailing. Those with only Start Sailing (Level 1) dinghy experience should take the full Basic Skills (Level 2) Catamaran course.
