ESS Introduction to Foiling Laser

6 hrs

The course

A 6-hour ESS course to learn to fly the Laser fitted with a FOILZ kit developed by Andrew McDougal, designer of the WASZP. The base course uses the foiling Laser throughout and students must have experience of sailing a single-hander dinghy before starting the course. Those with no experience of dinghy sailing should look first at the VDWS „Zero to Hero“ course.

Teaching method

The basic course uses a Laser dinghy fitted with the FOILSZ foil kit, designed by Andrew McDougall of WASZP fame. The kit was designed by WASZP specifically for the laser. The instructor follows the student in a powerboat and teaches with the help of radio helmets. The course includes a maximum of two foil boats on the water at the same time. The lessons begin with a short theoretical part on land and then proceed in the water with the practical part, with the assistance of the instructors who follow the students development, step by step.

Course and session timing

Course duration: 6 hours Duration of each lesson: 1 hour. The time required to prepare the boat and for launching is included in the duration of each lesson.

Pre-course experience

Minimum requirements: Advanced dinghy sailing technique. The 6-hour course suits advanced sailors, already very familiar with Laser or similar small dinghies. Those with no experience of dinghy sailing should look first at the VDWS „Zero to Hero“ course. NB: EXPERIENCE IN ONLY YACHT OR CATAMARAN IS NOT SUFFICIENT FOR THE LASER FOILZ COURSES.

How to book

The dates of the course will be scheduled in agreement with the staff. It is always possible to extend the course by subsequently purchasing additional lesson packages.
